"It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle."
Ernest Hemingway
email me if google hasn't got the answer..
It’s a small world we live in yet some choose to CUSS it up for others.
Recently I was told of a disturbing chain of emails going around a certain Sydney based cycling bunch (let’s be specific, a certain Eastern Suburb) that were annoyed that 2 cyclists dare join their regular morning rides.
The emails reached a level that surprises me - even in this 1st world of educated men.
They referred to these 2 cyclists as the “Argentinian & Chinese” & that these 2 had not gone through the usual channels to be allowed to ride with them on public roads..
FWIW - we were actually invited casually, I had rode with them twice & “the Argentinian” only once. ON A PUBLIC ROAD..
The silver lining is my good friend answered them with a simple sentence - “I’m not riding with you all again”.
Unlike my good friend I can’t wait to crash their bunch in the near future, be it on the road or at the regular cafe & proudly announce that there is an ChinaMan Australian in the area!
