What were we thinking? Why do we do it? It is the way of the “ciclista”..

It is a common bond that brings us together most mornings, even when we don’t ride. Or if you are not riding due to injury, there is an expectation for you to be at the finish cafe to make sure all is back safe.

I needed more than “over-socks” this morning.. As the winter rain & wind scared everyone away, but dang it was good riding..

Men in Black? Nah, MEN in LYCRA!

It was wet, it was cold & there were some spills (not I) as I hung back to get my legs back after a 6 week hiatus post elbow break, but damn it was god to be out with the bunch again.

The banter is just part of it.

Road cycling lessons to street wear.

Wind-proof, shower-proof, breathable, stretch, light-weight, packable, reflective panels, zipped pockets, articulated sleeves & shoulder line for cycling is also very much wearable off the bike.

One would think that Helmut Lang (the original) is moonlighting at Rapha as the fit, details & colour blocks is very much his DNA. Or is he also a cyclist.

There are many correlations between road cycling & tailoring that many would not see. - FIT, FUNCTION & FORM.

Maybe that’s why Helmut Lang retired so early as he hated the fashun industry politics..

Cows don’t need umbrellas..

So don’t worry about wearing leather shoes in the rain - just worry after.

• Air dry in a well ventilated area
• Shoe trees, lasted (made & shaped for said shoe) shoe trees are better
• Suede - always brush after each wearing, in one direction only
• Calf - brush down then apply shoe cream whilst the leather is warm. Better absorption
• Shell Cordovan - brush down
• Never wear same pair of shoes 2 days in a row
• Once a month apply a wax for protection
• 3M Scotch Guard or any silicone spray - only lasts 2 wears before one needs to reapply. Also can change the colour of suede or worse, seal the pores.. DON’T DO IT..

To shine or not?

Some like the high polish (such as Ethan), whilst other prefer a natural lustre (such as I). I won’t get into what is involved for a military shine as this is covered quite extensively.
